Here are some important things I’ve learned in the last few days:

1. The book The Giver was the first of FOUR BOOKS.  Do you remember that book? The ending wasn’t very satisfying but I took it as  stand-alone text.  This is very exciting news.

2. The Bic Crystal for Her! OMG!  Read the reviews.

3. My favourite vice, Made in Chelsea, is BACK.

4. Lena Dunham is writing a book.  This news is a few days old, but will fill a feminist-book-shaped-hole in my heart.  I’m thinking of buying the hardcover.

5. The band Farewell Milwaukee is my new obsession, and not just because MKE is my hometown.  Check out my favourite song of theirs:

Hello friends.  Here is what is new with me: Ian and I finally hung some photos (brick walls = home decor challenges).  We head home to the states for almost three weeks of holiday cheer and cross-country travel (Milwaukee, New York, Boston, Chicago – in that order) and I am psyched.  The sun is shining. So yeah. Life is good.

I spent the train ride home from London last night on Twitter and was amazed (though I probably shouldn’t have been) by what a treasure-trove of links and YouTube and wry commentary it really was.  Drew Austin wrote, “The highest level of Maslow’s pyramid should be “thinking about Maslow’s pyramid a lot”” which I thought was hilarious.   And here are some other things that the magic of the internet sent my way:

Pimms Cupcakes + Learning

Starlings: DAMN! (Courtesy of Josh Ritter, one of my favorite famous tweeters)

Supremes & Bieber Mash-up (from April, but still awesome)

Bon Iver Workout Video (Because everyone saw that coming, right?)

And speaking of singer-songwriters:

What I Did in Ithaca…

Franny is a creepy stalker, Hannah Hart, internet memes, My Drunk Kitchen, Songs to Wear Pants To, This American Life

Ok actually I did a lot of really great stuff in Ithaca, and I will detail it in a later post.

The thing that I did in Ithaca that I am currently obsessed with is watch every episode of “My Drunk Kitchen,” a YouTube video series by Hannah Hart, a 24-year-old Japanese translator who moved from California to New York and started making videos of herself, cooking while drunk, to pass the time.  I am, as usual, late to hop on the internet train; she’s already been profiled by Time magazine, which makes me officially uncool.  Nonetheless, I find these videos hilarious, and I want to help disseminate them, because they made me happy.

I recommend episodes six and nine, “Brunch” and “Ice Cream,” and they are included below.

And ICE CREAM:

Its probably not healthy that I am deriving as much joy from, basically, very low-budget TV.  I heard on “This American Life” that if you watch a TV show often enough, you can get the same benefits from watching the characters as you get from actually interacting with people in real life.  There might be a little bit of that going on.

At the moment, I am in New York, where I *do* have real-life friends, and I am about to go meet up with some of them and work on my portfolio! Hurray!
